Scholarship opportunities! Attention scholars of the Global South
Three great opportunities for higher education and research funding
Three great funding opportunities for research and further education. A Master’s programme scholarship for a Tanzanian graduate to head north to the University of Edinburgh, some more than handy research funds for a current PhD candidate, and a larger grant for research into “structural transformation, productivity, and economic growth in low-income countries”.
The Nyerere Scholarship, named after the first President of Tanzania and University of Edinburgh graduate Julius Nyerere, is now accepting applications. Open to talented recent Tanzanian graduates from the University of Dar es Salaam (graduated in the last three years), this fully-funded opportunity provides a pathway for bright minds to follow in Mwalimu’s footsteps. The scholarship covers the costs of the University of Edinburgh’s MSc in Africa and International Development. Applications open until January 28th 2025.
The Structural Transformation and Economic Growth programme is offering grants of up to £15,000 to currently enrolled PhD candidates to assist with research and data collection costs. The research needs to be “relevant to policy in low-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa” but otherwise to scope is pretty broad. Deadline for applications is December 15th!
Another one from the good people at the Structural Transformation and Economic Growth programme. Up to £100,000 (or more in certain extraordinary circumstances) for broadly similar purposes as the PhD research grant above. This one is open to all comers. Deadline for applications is January 20th 2025.
Good luck and happy researching!
